Buying a property has been the most stressful period of my life.
I don’t know if my expectations are too high or what. So here is my experience.
Finance Pre-approval with Keystart
Relatively straightforward and pain free except for a bit of hassle over my salary packaging card not producing a statement in the exact format they would like.
Property Search
There was no search as I had been searching for the previous six months in the lead up to this. So once I had preapproval I had placed a offer that weekend.
Offer was placed & accepted : 4th of December 2017 with settlement due on the 2nd of February 2018.
Settlement Process & Formal Approval
There was some anxiety around the formal approval process as you never know what could trip something up and the added bonus of the holiday season.
I nominated Vicki Philipoff Settlements as my agent and I must say communication has been next to nonexistent (maybe my standards are too high) which caused me great stress as I have been unable to book anything because I didn’t have the settlement day set in stone. I didn’t get confirmation of settlement day until 72 hrs before hand.
Settlement Day
It settled without issue on the 2nd of February.
Moving
I had plenty of offers to help me move and I rejected them all not because I was being rude or stubborn.
When I had to deal with big logistical tasks like this I find I have my own natural pace and I go hammer and tong and I find it easier if I don’t have to worry about being getting under my feet.
I moved a lot by car on Saturday. I had a truck booked for the Sunday but it was built for midgets and I couldn’t safely drive it. So I had to change tacks and hire a trailer. I spent my first night here on the 4th of February and moved the final stuff on Wednesday.
I had the cleaners go in today and I will hand back the keys tomorrow after I finish assembling my Ikea delivery that arrives tomorrow morning.
What did I learn through this process ?
- Trust myself and don’t second guess myself it is not helpful.
- At 41 I can still push myself to the max physically and mentally and keep it together when a curve ball attempts to screw with my plans.
Til next time…
